Resisting change; It really is all in our heads!

April 13, 2015

Many people tend to choose the concrete and predictable over the abstract and unseen; Comfort over Creativity.

Think about this when you ask someone for new ideas and creative visions. Then be prepared to give them your empathy, patience, and understanding.

Allow time for things to sink in; be patient.

The net result is likely to be better, more creative ideas and easier acceptance to the changes that may result.

Why?

Because resisting change is actually in our minds - specifically in the neural pathways we have formed.

We resist change because the ways we’ve learned to think (our neural pathways) feel comfortable to us. Even if we hate how we think or what we do, we feel a certain sense of comfort in our own ways at the sub-conscious level.

To cope with the frustration this can cause, allow yourself and others this; resistance to change is natural for everyone. The only way to achieve change is to feel discomfort as we re-program our neural pathways.

Remember, patience is the path of wisdom while waiting for our pathways to change.

No pain, no gain - it isn't just physical!
