I once met a leader whose level of maturity and excellence of character were powerful. His influence on me was immediate; I felt inspired to pattern myself after him.
Shortly into our conversation I had to ask what he had done to reach this level of development as a leader.
He shared with me, “The discipline of the wise is simply this; learn to control your own behavior.”
His answer puzzled me. It was basic, yet went right over my head .
Some years later, his words of wisdom came back to me.
My day started on a high note; everything was going great until I had an argument with my wife on the phone. My emotions flared and the rest of my day was horrible. Several co-workers asked me what was wrong, and I naturally replied, “Nothing.”
While driving home that night, I found myself recalling what he said, “The discipline of the wise is simply this; learn to control your own behavior.”
As I share his words with you, I pray they have impact and can help you be a better person. As for me, I continue to try to apply their simple wisdom.
